JOURNALISM 3 PROJECTS FOR FEB. 12- MARCH 20, 2007

STUDIO PROJECT

After the daily production is completed, all groups will work on their studio projects


Due Dates
1/26/07 1. The name of your show and a specific write up about the concept and theme of
your program. (This is not a little paragraph, but an detailed overview of the project)

2. Character list - Include a description of each character involved in your program

3. Set - Include a detailed set; discuss the details of your in-studio locations

1/30/07 1. Position list for every person in the class. (Include duel roles)
2. Wardrobe details

1/31/07 1. Scripts- detailed script for each position.
2. Intro Script
3. Closure script
4. (2) 30 second commercial scripts; (1) 10 second commercial script

2/6/07- Finished formal scripts (One for every position: Must be individualized)

2/8/07 1. All filming for Intro, Closure, Commercials, and outtakes must be imported today


2/12 - Groups will discuss/ plan in-studio practice sessions

2/13 and 2/14 -(Group 1) Lauren, Nichole and Dani - will practice these days.
**The entire class Must Participate in the practices or their group grade will drop a grade level

2/15 - Video Editing day

2/20 and 2/21 - (Group 2) Scott, Mike , Richie, James, Katie and Brian will practice these days

2/22 and 2/23 -(Group 3) Hannah, Nikki, Angela, Amanda, Brianna and Casey will practice these days

2/26 and 2/27 - (Group 4) Christa and Brigitte practice days

*Please make sure all paper work is returned to your original folder. It must be turned in with your edited final project.

**All studio taping days will be recorded on mini-dv tape.

JOURNALISM 2 POSTS FOR FEBRUARY 12 - MARCH 20, 2007

Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 12 and Feb 13)

Photo Project:
This project will utilize Cool 3D, CG Infinity and your scanned photos.

1. Today, you will be given 10 points if you brought your music to school. (The music must correspond to the theme of your photos)

2. Students will make a beginning graphic title and and ending graphic title for their project.

3. Please save them in your J2 folder in a "New Folder" called Photo Timing Project.

4. Both titles must enhance your project and correspond with your theme. One Title must be completed in Cool 3D and the other must be Completed in CG Infinity.

5. Be sure to save your projects at the end of each period. When you are Totally finished export them as a Video or animation file depending on which program your are using. Be sure they are 720 x 480 before you export.

Wednesday, 2/14 (Happy Valentine's Day!!):

1. Bring in your music through Sound Forge. Be sure to save it in your folder called Photo Timing Project

2. Watch the tutorial entitled "Timing"

3. Finish any graphics not completed on Mon. and Tues. (Graphics will be graded today: 30 Points each)

Thursday and Tuesday (2/15 and 2/20)

1. Complete your own Timing Project. (minimal 12 photos used in project PLUS one CG Graphic and one Cool 3D Graphic)

2. Be sure your project is exported into your folder AND the folder called Photo Timing period 4 or Photo Timing Period 5. (Points will be deducted if you fail to export to both folders)

--Please note that if your video doesn't play on the grading day, you have exported in PAL....please redo.

**Refer back to the tutorial if you have any questions

WEDNESDAY (2/21): Project viewing day.

(These projects will be graded. They are worth 125 points)

Thursday Through Tuesday (2/22 and 2/27): Watch and complete the tutorial entitled: Stop and Glow

1. Complete your own project. Use video already in your folder.

2. Export to the folder entitled: Stop and Glow pd 4 or Stop and Glow pd 5

Advertising Project:

Read Chapter 12: Objectives and Strategies for Public Relations Writing.(pgs 265 -275)

Chapter Review

I. Read and discuss the chapter.
A. Each student should have a detailed outline of the chapter in their notebooks. This should
include Section Headings, Subtopics, Key terms and Definitions. (The notebook will be turned
in for a 100 point grade. Each section will be checked) Ad Reviews

II. Discuss popular advertising campaigns....tv commercials, magazine and newspaper ads,
billboards and radio ads.

A. Each student must write a page about a specific ad campaign. The company must be in
accordance with school policy.
1. Discuss the ad (SLOGANS, LOGOS, PURPOSE)
2. Discuss the gender and age group targeted
3. Discuss the Publics, Markets and Audiences
4. Discuss the content of the ad: What appears in the ad to promote the product? Does it
work? Why or Why not?
5 Discuss colors in the ads. How do they accent/ highlight the product?
6. Discuss the placement of the ads (Where they appear, When they appear, How they
appear)
7. Evaluate the marketing campaign. Discuss the pros and cons of the campaign.
8. Bring in a sample of the ad campaign: tape a commercial, cut out a magazine ad for your
product or find info. on the product with visuals from the Internet.
9. Each person will present their advertisement findings to the class.

The class will discuss each campaign.

The paper is worth 100 points
The visual is worth 25 points
Knowledge of product/ campaign (Presentation) - 50 points ______________________________________________________________
NEXT ADVERTISING PROJECT
Group Project

1. Students will work in groups of 2-3
2. Students will Create a COMPANY AND A PRODUCT TO ADVERTISE

Begin:
1. Create a Company and a Product to advertise
2. Create a company logo
3. Create a slogan for your product
4. Discuss Marketing Ideas (How will you get your product to the people, What type of campaign will you use, Why is your company the best one to promote this product)

-To accomplish this, you must research similar companies and products on the Internet. Study their campaigns, company policies etc.) ______________________________________________________________ Directions:
Group Advertising / PR Project

I. Submit a paper indicating your group members Name your advertising firm Create a logo for your ad firm

II. Marketing
-You are going to market and advertise a product, service or message Select a “product / subject” for your project Create a formal presentation Using charts and graphs
A. Depict a market and a public
B. Indicate your target audience
C. Indicate how your marketing plan will increase sales/ public interest
D. Indicate demographic regions for advertising your product
E. Convince the class that you would be the best firm to sell this product/ idea
-Marketing: Finding Publics Audiences Markets Enablers Limiters Conduct Surveys Oral Polls Survey Write Objectives (Awareness…etc) (in book) Responsible for collecting and analyzing all data Put information on posters and present to the class Find Geographical areas to be covered And demographic Gender, location, Age etc. Find target audience

III. Advertising
-Tell the class your concept for the three ads you will produce
A.Display story boards……..The class must be able to view your story boards from their
seats
B.Discuss the content of your ad
C.Create three ads
1. Two 15 second commercials
2. One 30 second commercial

-Brainstorm 10 concepts for advertising plan 10 different scenarios and write them down pick three plans that are most marketable and establish details make brochures and fliers and radio add (first plans) describe plans create story boards for each commercial pick and vote on top plan

IV. Rules: Do not produce garbage Short fragments and sentences will not be accepted

V. Grading The groups will be graded by the class Each section of the project will receive a grade All requirements must be met by the assigned deadlines Have Fun!!
